Family Photoshoot Tips

Updated: 5 days ago

We would like to offer you the following Family Photoshoot tips to help you make the most of your family photoshoot session. For some of our clients, the idea of being a model for 1-2 hours can be a bit daunting. Continue reading for seven family photoshoot tips!

1. Choose your clothing carefully

Consider what makes you feel good and what is comfortable. We may ask you to do unusual and fun things, like lying down with your children on the ground. Take a look at other family photographs; what do you appreciate about them? Is the style soft, silky, colourful, or trendy? Adding playful accessories, such as a brightly coloured scarf or a hat, can be a delightful way to introduce a splash of colour and fun to your photoshoot.

2. Be well-fed!

There’s nothing worse than attempting a photoshoot when everyone is tired and hungry. We want you to be at your best while with us, so we try to avoid scheduling photos

just before lunch or close to tea time.

3. Go with the flow

It may not be your ideal way to spend the afternoon, but we assure you, you WILL enjoy it! Many of our clients have been pleasantly surprised by how enjoyable it can be to run around a park with their children while a photographer captures the moments! Embrace the experience, take guidance from the photographer, forget about the outside world, and simply enjoy yourself!

4. No pointing

One of the most common photos we end up deleting is when a parent points at the camera to encourage their child to look up at us. Don’t worry about that; leave it to us! Sometimes, the most beautiful pictures are those where a child isn’t looking directly at the camera anyway!

5. Have fun during your photoshoot

This is one of the most crucial of our Family Photoshoot tips! Don’t hesitate to be silly. In fact, the sillier, the better. We adore photos where parents are truly engaging and entertaining their children. The kids love it too! Have fun. Laugh. Giggle. Joke. Kiss. All of these moments will create truly lovely pictures.

6. Bring props

While we will make every effort to utilise our surroundings for the best pictures, it can be lovely to bring along some props for the photos. Perhaps something that you enjoy doing together as a family. Suggestions include books, bubbles, bikes, skateboards, flowers, etc.

7. Don’t worry about looking at the camera all the time

One thing we always tell clients is that it’s not necessary to look at the camera all the time. We love the photos where families are gazing at each other, looking at their children, or simply laughing into the distance. It’s all good!

We hope these Family Photoshoot tips are helpful – we want you to enjoy your experience with us as much as we will enjoy capturing your moments!
